Hailing from Inner Western Sydney, and founded by
vocalist and guitarist Kate Olivia in 2017, Second
Idol (formerly Bruise Pristine) delivers alternative
rock-inspired stompers addressing empowerment,
diversity, political cynicism and queerness. Ruthless and
unapologetic, Second Idol have been making an impact
on the Sydney live music scene delivering intense live
performances through their fondness for fuzz pedals
and fusion of alternative rock, post-punk, grunge and
shoegaze influences.
Founder and songwriter Kate is biracial and grew up in the
country town of Kempsey on the Mid North Coast of
New South Wales. She spent her teenage years longing
for community through music and queerness, additced
to artists such as Placebo, PJ Harvey and Interpol, and
formed the band out of an uncompromising sense of
social justice, feminism and emotional honesty.
Throughout their tenure Second Idol has supported and
shared stages with Baker’s Eddy, The Buoys,
Horror My Friend, Teenage Joans, Harry Howard and
The NDE, Wolf & Cub and supporting UK’s Crywank on their 2019 farewell tour.
